Program Information
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, serves as the foundation of America’s national nutrition safety net by working to end hunger and improve the health of low-income households. SNAP helps eligible households buy the food they need for a nutritionally adequate diet. In South Carolina, many households depend on SNAP each month to get the food they need to ensure good health. Families, people living alone, people living with roommates, and/or people who are homeless may be eligible for SNAP.

Program Information
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), formerly known as Family Independence (FI) and Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), is a time-limited program that assists families with dependent children when families cannot provide for their basic needs. Families must be residents of South Carolina, be willing to participate in the TANF work program and pursue child support from parents absent from the household. This program is designed to serve both single-parent and two-parent families, as well as households with disabled adults. In many instances, combining services from TANF, Child Support, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid may play an important part in the family achieving self-sufficiency.
The primary focus of the program is to assist low income families meet basic needs by providing:
Program Information
The South Carolina Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) Program was established to provide income assistance to refugees who do not meet qualifications for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). RCA is a short-term transitional program available to eligible refugees for up to eight (8) months after arrival in the United States. The date can vary based on status of refugee, Cuban/Haitian entrants, asylees, or victim of human trafficking.
Refugee families with dependent minor children must first apply for, and if eligible, participate in the state Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program.
